The town is born vol.2 digital catalogue of the permanent exhibition

About the exhibition

The areas of our permanant exhibition show the history of Martfű from the 1940s to the system change. Looking back to the 19th century precedents, we can witness how a foreign industrial company influenced the economical and social development of the „Martfű-desert” and how Martfű became an idependent settlement, and in the 70’s the most modern town of the area. The development of the town can not be separated from the development of the shoe factory, we can witness nationalization, the development of the new logo, the establishment of shop network and social-cultural developments. The aim of the exhibition is to show the historical processes beside letting the visitors peep into the everyday life of the workers, the sportlife and entertainment beside work.

In the first room we can examine the hand tools and machine tools of the shoe making with the help of the archive advertisements, documents and short films from Martfű. The second room is about planning and building the town, about the so called „Bata era” with functional-futuristic ideas, with typical buildings, with realisation during the war and with getting bigger and bigger factory town. A great value in the third room is the original Tisza neon advertising sign which represents the new logo, new marketing, new shoe types and a rapidly developing era with the due respect of the workers. In the last room there is the reconstructed display wall of the Tisza Cipő showroom. Those shoes are exhibited here for which the newer versions are still in great demand among young people and of which the generation 40-60 fondly remembers. The development of the town was also supported by the plant oil factory and the brewery and the presentation of their operation is featured in this room too.

In 2016 as a public museum collection, the Local History and the Industrial Heritage Collection Museum became a new, permanent exhibition. Its title refers to A Town Is Being Born exhibition concentrating on the Bata-era and contains some of its importan elements, the once display boards now decorate the hallways to the exhibitions. Contributed to the creation of the exhibition: Sándor Aranyos, Péter Gere, Balázs Hugyecsek and Zita Eiler.
